occupational therapy

"Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants focus on the things you want and need to do in your daily life. Occupational therapy...uses everyday life activities (occupations) to promote health, well-being, and your ability to participate in the important activities in your life. This includes any meaningful activity that a person wants to accomplish, including taking care of yourself and your family, working, volunteering, going to school, among many others." (AOTA, 2026)

If you've never experienced occupational therapy before, you can think of it as a mix of therapy, coaching, and hands-on problem-solving, focused on making everyday life work better for you.

Our sessions are collaborative, practical, and grounded in your real life. We’ll get curious about what’s making something difficult and figure out what might help.

Often, we work on real things together in your actual environment. We might organize a space, tackle the pile of paperwork you've been avoiding, create a system for managing medications or meals, practice navigating a community activity, adjust your workspace, work through an overwhelming task, or experiment with sensory and environmental changes.

Other times, we might talk while walking, develop strategies, explore accommodations, better understand patterns of fatigue or overwhelm, or learn more about what your brain and body need. Rather than expecting you to practice a strategy in one setting and figure out how to apply it later, OT gives us the opportunity to work through barriers where they actually happen.

You bring your lived experience. I bring my OT lens. Together, we figure out how to make your everyday life more functional, accessible, and sustainable.

Neuro-affirming, strengths-based OT honors differences in thinking, sensing, and being as a natural part of human diversity. These differences come with unique strengths and, at times, real challenges and disability, particularly when people lack the context, accommodations, and supports they need to live in ways that are sustainable for their neurodivergent minds and bodies.
